MOST COMMON QUESTIONS

How difficult is the Salkantay Trek?

The trek is considered challenging, with high-altitude passes, steep ascents, and varying terrain. It requires a good level of physical fitness, but it is accessible to most people with proper preparation.

The best time to trek Salkantay is during the dry season, from May to September, when the weather is clearer and trails are less slippery. The rainy season (October to April) can make the trek more difficult due to mud and possible landslides.

  1. Essential items include sturdy hiking boots, a warm jacket, layers for varying weather, sunscreen, a hat, a good sleeping bag, and a water bottle. A day pack with snacks, a camera, and a first-aid kit is also recommended.
