Itinerary
What you will do and explore with us
The adventure begins early in the morning with a transfer from Cusco to the village of Mollepata, located at 2,803 m above sea level. From here, the hike commences with a steady ascent across highland landscapes, eventually reaching Soraypampa (3,900 m), the first campsite. After lunch, those who wish may take an optional hike to the stunning Humantay Lagoon (4,200 m), renowned for its turquoise waters and panoramic mountain views. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay in well-prepared tents designed to withstand the cold mountain climate.
The second day begins with an early breakfast before undertaking the most challenging section of the trek: the ascent to the Salkantay Pass (4,632 m), the highest point of the route. Here, trekkers can admire spectacular views of the snowcapped peak of Salkantay and capture unforgettable photographs. After a short rest, the route descends toward Wayracpampa, where lunch is served. The afternoon continues with a descent through greener landscapes, gradually transitioning into the cloud forest. By evening, the group arrives at the Chaullay campsite (2,900 m), where dinner and rest await after approximately 22 kilometers of hiking.
Following breakfast, the trail continues through lush subtropical vegetation, leading to Playa Sahuayaco (2,200 m), where lunch is provided. At this point, trekkers bid farewell to the support team of cooks and porters before continuing by vehicle to the Hidroelectrica station, a location surrounded by mountains and dense vegetation. The journey proceeds on foot along the train tracks and the Vilcanota River for approximately 10 kilometers (about two hours) until reaching the town of Aguas Calientes. The evening includes dinner and an overnight stay in a local tourist accommodation.
The final day begins early with breakfast at the hotel before boarding the shuttle bus for a short 30-minute ride to the entrance of Machu Picchu (2,490 m). A guided tour then unfolds through the main temples, plazas, terraces, and ceremonial sectors of this world-renowned Inca citadel, offering an in-depth understanding of its history and significance. After the visit, there is free time in Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, the return journey begins with a train ride to Ollantaytambo, followed by a bus transfer back to Cusco, marking the end of this unforgettable expedition.
