Its perfectly carved stone walls, terraced slopes, and sacred temples tell the story of an empire at the height of its glory. With GREATOURS PERU, this journey is more than a visit—it is a step back in time, a chance to walk the same paths as the ancient Inca, and to feel the mystique of one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

This full-day adventure takes you from the city of Cusco through the Sacred Valley and into the heart of the Peruvian Andes, where Machu Picchu awaits. Day 1
Machu Picchu Full Day
  • 04:00 hrs – Pick-up from your hotel
Your day begins before dawn, as our team meets you at your hotel for an early transfer to the train station in Ollantaytambo. The quiet drive through the Sacred Valley allows you to witness the gradual awakening of the Andes, with the first light illuminating ancient terraces, riverbanks, and sleepy mountain villages.
  • 06:10 hrs – Train journey to Aguas Calientes
Board the train for a breathtaking ride along the Urubamba River. Large panoramic windows reveal a constantly changing landscape—snow-capped peaks give way to lush valleys, waterfalls tumble down rocky cliffs, and the terrain transforms into dense cloud forest as you approach the gateway to Machu Picchu. Your guide will be there to help you make the most of the journey, pointing out notable landmarks along the way.
  • 07:50 hrs – Arrival in Aguas Calientes
Upon arrival in the charming town of Aguas Calientes, your guide will accompany you to the bus station for the short yet scenic ride up the winding mountain road to Machu Picchu. As the bus ascends, glimpses of steep cliffs and the surrounding green peaks heighten the anticipation of your visit.
  • 08:30 hrs – Guided tour of Machu Picchu
Step into one of the most iconic archaeological wonders in the world. During the approximately two-hour guided tour, you will explore the citadel’s most important areas, including the Temple of the Sun, the Main Plaza, the Intihuatana stone, and residential sectors. Your guide will bring history to life, explaining the site’s architectural marvels, the Inca worldview, and the theories surrounding its purpose and mysterious abandonment.
  • 10:30 hrs – Free time
After the guided portion, enjoy personal time to wander at your own pace. Find a quiet spot to take in the majestic scenery, capture photographs of the citadel framed by the surrounding mountains, or simply reflect on the ingenuity of the Inca civilization.
  • 12:00 hrs – Return to Aguas Calientes
Board the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you can explore the town’s small shops and markets or have lunch at one of its restaurants (lunch not included). The town’s relaxed atmosphere and natural surroundings provide the perfect transition from the grandeur of Machu Picchu.
  • 14:30 hrs – Train back to Ollantaytambo
Settle into your seat for another scenic train journey through the Sacred Valley. The afternoon light creates a warm glow over the river and mountains, offering new perspectives on the landscapes you passed earlier in the day.
