Itinerary
What you will do and explore with us
- Arrival in Puerto Maldonado
Upon arrival at the Puerto Maldonado Airport or bus terminal, you will be greeted by your professional guide. Enjoy a short transfer to the river port while receiving a brief introduction to the region’s history, biodiversity, and local culture. - Boat Ride on the Madre de Dios River
Board a motorized canoe for a scenic journey along the Madre de Dios River, gliding past lush rainforest and spotting herons, kingfishers, and turtles basking in the sun. This is your first chance to experience the sights and sounds of the Amazon Jungle. - Lodge Check-in & Lunch
Arrive at your eco-lodge, surrounded by pristine nature. After a welcome drink, settle into your room and enjoy a traditional Amazonian lunch, featuring fresh local ingredients. - Afternoon Jungle Hike
In the afternoon, join your naturalist guide for an introductory hike along rainforest trails within the Tambopata National Reserve. Learn about the incredible biodiversity, from towering kapok trees to plants used in traditional medicine. Keep your eyes open for monkeys, colorful butterflies, and tropical birds. - Night Safari by Boat
After dinner, embark on a night boat safari along the riverbanks to observe nocturnal wildlife. With the help of spotlights, look for black caimans, nightjars, capybaras, and other species that come alive after dark. - Overnight in Lodge
- Early Breakfast
Wake up before sunrise to maximize your chances of spotting wildlife at its most active. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lodge, energizing you for a morning of exploration. - Excursion to Sandoval Lake
Depart on a short boat ride along the Madre de Dios River, then disembark for a 3 km (1.8 mile) guided walk through pristine rainforest. Along the trail, your guide will point out medicinal plants, towering trees, and animal tracks. - Upon reaching Sandoval Lake, board a paddle canoe to glide across its mirror-like waters. This lake is part of the Tambopata National Reserve and is famous for its rich wildlife. Keep your camera ready for sightings of giant river otters, red howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, cormorants, herons, and a dazzling variety of butterflies and dragonflies. With luck, you may even spot black caimans sunning on the shore.
- Return to the Lodge & Lunch
Paddle back to the trailhead and retrace your steps through the forest. At the lodge, enjoy a final Amazonian lunch, savoring the flavors of the rainforest. - Transfer Back to Puerto Maldonado
After lunch, pack your belongings and bid farewell to the jungle. Board the motorized canoe for your return trip along the river. Upon arrival at the port, your guide will accompany you to the airport or bus terminal for your onward journey, carrying with you unforgettable memories of the Amazon. - End of Services
