What you will do and explore with us
- Arrival in Puerto Maldonado
Upon arrival at the airport or bus terminal, you will be warmly greeted by your local guide, who will provide a brief orientation and assist with your transfer to the river port. During this short journey, you will get your first impressions of the lush Amazonian environment surrounding the city. - Boat Ride to the Lodge
Board a motorized canoe and begin your adventure along the Madre de Dios River, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon. As you travel downstream, keep your eyes open for wildlife such as capybaras, white herons, and a variety of raptors soaring overhead. Your guide will share insights into the river ecosystem and the importance of the rainforest for biodiversity. - Lodge Check-in & Lunch
Upon arrival at the lodge, settle into your jungle accommodation, designed to blend with the natural environment while providing comfort. Enjoy your first taste of Amazonian cuisine, prepared with fresh local ingredients that highlight the flavors of the region. - Afternoon Jungle Exploration
Set off on a guided walk along rainforest trails to discover the extraordinary diversity of the Amazon. Learn about the medicinal properties of plants, admire towering ceiba and shihuahuaco trees, and watch for possible sightings of tamarin monkeys, macaws, and exotic bird species. Your guide will also share stories about the cultural and ecological significance of the forest. - Night Boat Safari
After dinner, embark on an exciting nocturnal river safari. Navigate slowly along the riverbanks with the help of spotlights to search for black caimans, capybaras, and night birds such as potoos and owls. Begin your day at dawn, when the rainforest is most alive with sounds and wildlife activity. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lodge, providing the energy needed for the day’s adventure. - Hike to Sandoval Lake
Take a short boat transfer to the entrance of the Tambopata National Reserve. From here, embark on a 3 km (1.8 mile) guided hike along jungle trails lined with towering trees and dense vegetation. Your guide will point out medicinal plants, tropical flowers, and signs of wildlife along the way. - Canoe Ride on Sandoval Lake
Arrive at the shimmering waters of Sandoval Lake, one of the most biodiverse areas in the region. Board a wooden canoe and glide silently across the lake, scanning for giant river otters, red howler monkeys, hoatzins, kingfishers, and possibly black caimans basking on the shores. The stillness of the water and the surrounding palm forest create a serene and breathtaking setting. - Lunch at the Lodge
Return to the lodge for a fresh Amazonian meal, crafted with local ingredients and traditional flavors. Take some time to rest or relax in a hammock before the evening activity. - Night Walk in the Jungle
As darkness falls, join your guide for an exciting nocturnal walk through the rainforest. Equipped with flashlights, search for tarantulas, tree frogs, owls, and other creatures that come alive after sunset. This is a rare opportunity to experience the Amazon’s nightlife and hear the symphony of insects, amphibians, and night birds.
- Sunrise Wildlife Observation (Optional)
For those eager to make the most of their final morning, join your guide for an early outing at dawn. As the first light filters through the canopy, observe macaws, toucans, and a variety of other colorful bird species as they feed and call to one another. The peaceful atmosphere at sunrise offers one last magical connection with the rainforest. - Breakfast & Free Time
Return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast. Enjoy your remaining moments in the Amazon by relaxing on the terrace, taking photographs, or exploring a nearby trail for a final glimpse of monkeys, butterflies, or tropical flowers. - Return to Puerto Maldonado
Bid farewell to the lodge staff and embark on your boat transfer along the Madre de Dios River, keeping an eye out for capybaras, herons, and other wildlife on the riverbanks. Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado, your guide will accompany you to the airport or bus terminal for your onward journey, concluding your unforgettable Amazon adventure.
